Paris Fashion Week: biggest batch!

Ok, so now my exams are over, I can post my highlights from the weekend and yesterday's shows. Let's get to it then! Galliano-less John Galliano show. Inspired by Mary Poppins and quite british, as usual, but lacking that je ne sais quoi the man brought to the table. I actually did like a lot the last couple of dresses. But I think Galliano is such a genius, he should be forgiven and brought back already! Kate Moss forgave him everyone else should!!

Kenzo was super colorful and fun, but somehow made me think of Balenciaga prints from a couple of seasons back. On the other hand, may be I've studied too much lately so don't listen to me. Oh! And I love the peplums in those khaki pants! (F.Y.I. Peplum is that thingy on top of it, like a mini mini skirt).

I am burnt out, but you can trust my judgement on this: Givenchy was flawless. Really. Perfect. Riccardo Tisci has seriously gotten it right. Sexy and pretty, artful and wearable. I want every look and I want to live and work in a place where I can wear that every single day of my life! ...P.S. Yes, that's Gisele in the fifth look. And, yes, she still got it.

Giambattista Valli, on the other hand, disappointed me. He had had a nice row, but he fell of his standards, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it was an ok collection, but there was no wow factor, if you know what I mean.

Chloé reinventing the hip. Waist is so right now, it's old. At least that's what it looks like over here. And, all very pretty and clean, as usual.

Finally, the last of the batch, Yves Saint Laurent. May I just say, bravo! The backs, the belts, the Marrakech! ...and the shoes... My god!

Love and fashion in Natalia Vodianova's Charity Ball

Natalia Vodianova's White Fairy Tale Love Ball took place at Valentino's property, Chateau de Wideville. The purpose of this charity event was to raise money for Natalia's Naked Heart Foundation. That's all very nice but as the purpose of this blog is fashion, let's get to it!
The code of dress, as stated by the invitation, was rigorous white for all women, but it was ignored by quite a few. First of all by hostess Natalia Vodianova, who, claiming her rightful spotlight, wore Valentino red and changed outfits!

My personal best dressed, however, was Carine Roitfeld in Givenchy Couture. That woman can wear anything!

Anne Hathaway wore Valentino for the occasion. I have to admit she looked quite nice.

Anna dello Russo in Roberto Cavalli Red Carpet Collection. Stunning as usual.

I particularly loved Elena Perminova's dress.

Olivia Palermo in non-white Valentino Couture. I love her feathered purse!

Actress Stella Tennant in another one of my favorite looks. She wore a vintage Chanel dress from the 20s.

Mademoiselle Agnès flirting with the dress code: black pants?

Finally, Daphne Guinness in Alexander McQueen constituted the greatest transgression to the dress code. Her dress had every color BUT white in it. Still, she is Daphne Guinness, when does she ever do things the normal way?

Paris Haute Couture FW 2011 (Day2)

Day two! Unexpectedly, Chanel show changed its usual time (10am), but kept its usual venue (Grand Palais). The reason behind the time change, however, was evident when you got a glimpse at the scenario for the show. A huge replica of the Place Vendôme obelisk made out of what appeared to be a string of light. And the clothes... Karl made up for last January's disappointment and delivered a beautiful, classic collection. Mostly, as it's customary, black and white looks, with some midnight blue and the odd shocking fuchsia gown. All in all, a most dark and elegant collection. I personally greatly enjoyed the silhouette, strongly marking the waist and, in the last looks, elongating the figure with their floor lengths.

Stephane Rolland keeps proving himself worthy over and over. I like this collection even better than I liked last one! It looks so ethereal, but, at the same time so crafty. Some of my favorite:

Ok, Givenchy Couture is getting freaky. I don't think it's normal for a designer to get it right over and over. And he gets it soooo right! Maybe it's just me, biased, or programmed to love Ricardo Tisci's every creation but, will you look at this? I don't think it's a stretch to call that collection breathtaking. So white and pure. Ah, it just leaves me speechless.

Lastly, another time shifter was Armani, whose show usually is a nocturnal one, and was moved today to the morning. The collection was inspired by Japan. Not the only designer to do so this season: Zuhair Murad also gave his take on the Kimono on more than one look. It's a personal taste, but I really don't like it. However, looking at it as objectively as possible, it's a rather good collection. A natural evolution from the futuristic-looking last one and into the most traditional essence of Japan. And the headpieces, I have to say, were to die for!

That's day 2. Tomorrow, don't miss day 3!
