Giambattista Valli granted highest fashion honor

I called it, didn't I? I'm sorry to brag, but I feel as if a pair of shoes I bought was featured in Vogue a month later! I feel my personal taste validated by a higher authority. Why, you may ask? Well, my "new love", Giambattista Valli, turned out to be the Fédération Française de la Couture's new love as well!

Even though his first couture collection, as an guest member, was only last July, la Fédération has already granted him the official status of Couturier (a honor that usually takes "guest members" about five years to get). This is a first! And although it was, of course, done as an strategic commercial move to get some young blood injected into the archaic couture system, it is, nonetheless a highest of honors and, I believe, it was bestowed on a most deserving recipient!

Lady Gaga married the night!

This post is long overdue!... I give you my take on Lady Gaga's latest video, the self-directed, self-starred, 14 minute movie, a.k.a. Marry the Night.

I think it's genius, and if you don't get it, like I bet no one does, you can watch the whole explanation here, like I did. It will save you a lot of head scratching!

But now, let's get down to business. Fashion credits! The styling was, of course, by Nicola Formichetti. In his website he gives you the most scrupulous fashion credits. I, on the other hand, will give you the condensed version.

Number one, the hospital robes and nurses' uniforms, all by Calvin Klein. The shoes, just like Gaga says it herself, custom Giuseppe Zanotti.

Number two, all the ballet outfits, which I love, are by Atsuko Kudo.

Number three, the whole denim-glitter number, shoes included, by Atelier Versace.

...Many outfits later, vintage Moschino suit. I adore it!

To top it all, the hat we're all wondering about (ok, the hat I was wondering about), by Void Of Course.

The very last scene, features Lady Gaga in a Paco Rabanne outfit out of a collection that, let's face it, was practically made for her.

And that's that! Hope you like it as much as I did!

PS. The scene with the cheerios, the most decadent thing I've seen Gaga do. And that's saying a lot!
PS2. I loved the scene with the cheerios!

Super model reunions

This music video by Duran Duran of their song "Girl Panic!", sent to me originally by my friend Istuo, features the fantastic four of the catwalks, Naomi, Cindy,  Eva and Helena, playing members of the band. It's hilarious!!

The sexy rocker outfits are all by big names, including Dolce and Gabbana, Giles, Ann Demeulemeester, Ralph Lauren, among others; and a couple of those names actually appear on screen, Dolce and Gabbana, the designers themselves, make cameos as fashion editors.

And it seems that on screen is not the only place supermodels get together. Change Cindy and Naomi for Claudia, and you've got yourself last September's Vogue Spain cover! They're even wearing Dolce and Gabbana! Apparently, as the French would put it, L'Union fait la force.

Chanel Paris-Bombay

Yes, it's been over a month, I'm aware of that, and I'm sorry! But my graduation is finally over I can now officially commit to my blog! And, yes, I am aware that the Chanel pre-fall collection has been around for two weeks, but as you may guess, my special predilection for the maison won't let this collection go unnoticed! So here it is! Better late than never...

So this is Bombay as viewed through the double C shaped glass, right? Don't you love the way Karl is always able to Chanel-things-up? I bet he could make a Chanel-Volcano-Apocalypse collection and pull it off splendidly! Oh, wait, he kinda already has. Point proven!

This collection was just a wonderful explosion of eastern decadence and pearls. Best part about Paris-Bombay? He's never been to India!... You gotta love him! Here you have my favorite looks!

Last, my absolute favorite, *someone, please, get it for me for Christmas*...

That's it for today. It's good to be back!... Expect more, soon.

Carine's back!

Back in action! Carine sat out the last ready to wear FW at Paris in order not to confuse people. Now, however, she's full fledged back! This time, however, she's a simple, ordinary client (Yeah, right), who happens to get fitted by Donatella and Jean Paul Gaultier (among others), just like everyone else... So, in collaboration with W magazine, she documented this process in a short film, entitled The Client. It's a lot of fun!!! You can watch it HERE. You should!

Here she is in the Premiere Party, in Paris.

And, here are a couple of funny stills of the video... She makes fun of her own super french accent.

Versace for H&M

The new big collaboration of H&M, this time, with Versace, is looming nearer. This pink meets leather, meets palm trees, super fun and quintessentially Versace collection is going to be available in stores on November the 17th. If you wish to purchase anything from the collection worthwhile, I would recommend you stand in line really early... the best pieces fly out of the shelves! Get me any of these while you're at it:

Enjoy the super fun ad, featuring Donatella and two lookalike models inside the Versace version of Saw.

The Birkin: available at your nearest market

How long has it been? Almost a month!... I do my best, really! But school and work, don’t leave me with a lot of free time to blog, you know. Anyways, I was at a photoshoot of the magazine I’m working for (comes out December, I’ll post some editorials!), and, among the garnments we were lent to use in the shoot, there was the Birkin, in a terracota hue, in all its glory. Oh how perfect it is! And how well it goes with everything!
Well, I was talking about it with my friend, Carla, and she told me the story of the original Birkin bag. You won’t believe it!
You know the bag people pay thousands of dollars for, and wait for years to possess? Well, Jane Birkin actually wore a basket. That’s right a knitted, regular, basket.

Tells the story that once in a flight, while trying to put her Birkin basket in an overhead compartment, she spilled all her things unto the floor. The Hermès CEO at the time happened to witness this and asked her about her very peculiar choice of bag. She said she hadn’t found a weekend bag she really liked. He created the Hermès Birkin for her but, after wearing it for a while; she went back to her basket. And that’s that. So now you know, you can carry a basket around and, when people ask, just say: It’s my Birkin, you ignorant!

Paris Fashion Week season finale

Well, to wrap this up properly, let's take a look at the last couple of days' big players. We start with Valentino. I liked this collection a lot more than I usually do. I find most of them quite average, ok, collections. This one, for me, had a couple lows, but mostly a lot of highs! I'm going to keep it positive and post only my favorite looks.

Elie Saab kept it colorful and fluid.

Louis Vuitton's carousel of pastels and flowers, call me crazy but it remainded me just a little too much of Chanel FW 08-09. Just saying... Still, some solid looks and, yes indeed, Kate Moss herself!

And the big finale! Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton blew it out of the park! I mean, look at these! The beauty of each piece. The colors, the handcraft, the feel... it's like McQueen on Prozac! So happy to look at!

Well, fashion month it's over. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!!
